This lesson plan was designed to help children differentiate acceptable behaviour from unacceptable behaviour and make changes in their respective behaviours. This plan was designed for grade 2 and was conducted for 60 mins. The homeroom teacher had reported, about certain difficulties in the classroom setting among the children. They were indulging in lot of unacceptable behaviours like teasing, hitting, pushing etc which created difficulties in classroom management.
The session started by praising the positive qualities of children in the classroom. A ppt made by me, based on a story of two children Nancy and John in supermarket with their father was shown to the class. Everyone enjoyed the story and they learned few new words like – aisle, pout etc. Lot of interaction about the story was encouraged. RIGHT ya WRONG
The questions focused for the story are displayed in the PPT. Children gave responses and were easily able to differentiate between acceptable and unacceptable behaviours of story characters-John and Nancy. They used their problem solving skills and gave suggestion as how the father could have handled the situations and dealt with Nancy and John. Few children shared their behaviour in the supermarket when they are with their parents.
After the interaction, the class had a clear understanding of the term acceptable and unacceptable. With collaboration, we again listed “acceptable and unacceptable behaviours in the classroom”. Children gave fabulous responses and had insight into right and wrong behaviours in the classroom. Few of the acceptable responses included:-“complete your pending work, help everyone, be responsible, complete your task on time, respect everyone, greet everyone, obey teachers etc”
Few of the unacceptable responses included:-“don’t bully, don’t lie-shout-tease or hit anyone, no back answering or hurting anyone, avoid spoiling others work or losing their things etc.”
The activity planned for this guidance class, included expressing their responses in the form of tick mark and cross. Hence, chart paper was provided in these shapes and all acceptable behaviours were written in and all unacceptable behaviours were written in by each child as per the responses provided by them.
